When you have a toothache, you don’t know for sure what the result will be other than you want to get relief for the pain you’re experiencing. At Northern Jersey Endodontics, we want to save your tooth, such as with root canal therapy, endodontic re-treatment, or an apicoectomy. When all the other possibilities have been ruled out, though, you will need to have the tooth removed. It’s a last resort, since you will be left with empty space where your tooth used to be. But our Montvale extractions are performed with expert precision and gentle care, so you can feel assured that it will be done with the utmost of comfort for you.
The odds are in your favor for keeping any given tooth when you suffer an infection inside the tooth. The chances of success are somewhat lower for teeth that have been dislodged or come loose (avulsed), or when the tooth has been fractured. Nevertheless, for any tooth that is determined to be a good candidate for root canal therapy, 90% of them turn out well. And of those that don’t, many of them can be saved with endodontic re-treatment (doing the root canal over again), or a surgical procedure called an apicoectomy or a root end resection. Our Montvale extractions become necessary only when the other options have been exhausted. You will be numbed with local anesthesia beforehand. After the tooth is taken out, you’ll be asked to eat a soft diet for the first 24 hours. Also, it’s a good idea to rinse frequently with warm water and a pinch of salt, and to use over-the-counter pain relievers for any residual discomfort.
